UWSCC Announces Additional Emergency Food and Shelter Program Federal Funding

United Way of St. Clair County, as board chairperson for the Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), has received notification of the release of an additional $9,925.00 from the federal government to provide grants for eligible agencies for St. Clair County.  These funds are to be used to provide for homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, and organizations helping individuals with emergency utility and mortgage assistance.

This additional funding, under Phase CARES, has been released by the National Board of the EFSP to Michigan’s State Set-Aside (SSA) Committee.  The committee gathers state-wide data that is not available nationally to determine local need and make the best funding decisions possible.  Information they consider may include state counts of homelessness, welfare case load, cost of living index, plant closings, and food stamp application levels.  Only some of the local jurisdictions in Michigan are receiving this additional financial aid to supplement and expand emergency food and shelter programs and help agencies provide more comprehensive support for residents.

All organizations are required to apply using the application process available online, at www.uwstclair.org/EFSP; instructions are provided.  All applications must be submitted to United Way of St. Clair County by 4:30 p.m. on September 28, 2020 for consideration.
