FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  June 9, 2020

United Way of St. Clair County Approves Grant for Soup Kitchen Necessities

United Way of St. Clair County (UWSCC) announces the granting of funds for Mid City Nutrition Program (Mid City) through their Emergency Services Fund ~ COVID-19 Relief Aid.  Mid City is a UWSCC Affiliated Organization and is staying connected with their clients to assure that they do not go hungry.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mid City has made necessary adjustments to their program to ensure that their guests are being served safely, such as replacing dine-in service with carry-out lunches.  UWSCC recognizes the long-term impact this crisis may have on Mid City’s organization and the way their services are provided.  Mid City is committed to continuing to serve daily meals for individuals and families who are struggling and helping organizations that need food for their clients.  The awarded funds will cover costs for food or meal packaging.

UWSCC has designated funds available to help organizations address unique needs specific to COVID-19 in St. Clair County.  New contributors to this fund include Chemical Bank (TCF), MI Association of United Ways, Ms. Sharon Walby, and Mr. Scott Nill.  Thanks to this additional support, UWSCC is able to continue to address unforeseeable, unique needs in the community that are rooted in the COVID-19 pandemic.  These funds are intended to help address emergency needs of organizations while assuring financial support is available to aid in future recovery efforts.  UWSCC is focused on maintaining accountability by utilizing the volunteer COVID-19 Emergency Response Committee to review COVID-19 funding proposals that are submitted through an online process.  To learn more and apply for funding, visit: uwstclair.org/EmergencyServicesFund-Covid-19-ReliefAid.

COVID-19 funds cannot be used for individuals seeking financial support at this time.  UWSCC recommends all individuals with any type of need to dial 2-1-1, or (888) 636-4211, to be connected with available information and resources.  Please remember, many organizations have staff working from home and require individuals to leave a phone message.  Visit uwstclair.org/HealthFirst for more household resources.
